AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE
INTERNAL ORGANISATION EXPANSION OF FIGHTING FORCES Received Dec. 17, 11.55 p.m. MELBOURNE, Dec. 17. General principles controlling the expenditure of £11,000,000 on defence by Australia during the current financial year weve discussed by the Defence Council today. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, presided. Security from external aggression is sought by the simultaneous expansion of the navy, a.my and air forces, intensive organisation of internal resources, production of munitions, raw materials and foodstuffs to meet a national emergency. Australia proposes to work towards the ideal of becoming the supply centre for the western Pacific area of the Empire. It is believed that there is little prospect of a reduced defence vote for the next two years.
