EVEREST EXPEDITION

NEXT YEAR’S PARTY CHOSEN LONDON, Dec. 16. In addition to Mr. H. W. Tilman, Mr. F. S. Smythe, Mr. Eric Shipton, Dr. Warren, and Lieut. Oliver, all of whom accompanied Mr. Hugh Ruttledge last year, also Captain N. Odell, who participated in 1924, and Mr. Peter Lloyd have been selected to complete the 1938 Everest party. A London message on November 8 stated: Mr. H. W. Hillman will lead the 1938 Everest expedition. He was a member of the 1935 reconnaissance party and did not participate in the Main Everest expedition, but last year he led a party to the summit of Nanda Devi Peak (26,656 feet), which is next to Everest. The attempt will probably be limited to three or four men. It is believed that a small number will achieve increased mobility. It is recalled that Mr. Hugh Ruttledge in 1935 said he would not again attempt to climb Everest.
