ARMED MERCHANTMEN
TWELVE NEW VESSELS AMERICA PLACING ORDERS (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Dec. 16. The United States Maritime Commission has announced that it is asking for bids for 12 steel cargo vessels for immediate construction, the largest peace-time order for merchant cargo tonnage ever placed in the United States. The vessels will be armed and will be easily adapted for war-time purposes.
