RANGITIKEI HOCKEY ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the Rangitikei Hockey sub-Association held on Thursday evening, matters concerning the approaching tour of the English ladies' hockey team were discussed. Mr W. G. Aitken occupied the chair, presiding over Messrs W. J. Mogridge, A. Smart, A. Gracie, A. H. Wing, F. Death and W. B. Cuming (secretary). Correspondence was received from I Feilding relative to the English 'hockey tour next season. It was decided that the Rangitikci Association guarantee £l6 towards the match at Feilding, this amount to apply only to the guarantee required by the N. of £BO. The loss, if any, is to be on a percentage basis. It was further decided that the Rangitikei selector co-operate with I the Feilding selector in the choice of the team. The necessity of the team , meeting as often as possible tor practice together, was emphasised. | Hearty votes of thanks were passed to all those who had assisted with card parties, dances and providing <•. I refreshments throughout the season. I Hearty vote of appreciation of the ! chairman's activities and the great 'interest displayed by him during the 'season, was carried by acclamation. i The usual honorarium was granted jlhe secretary. PERSONAL In the beautiful grounds of the Marton Vicarage, Rev. W. Raine and Mrs Raine entertained a number of

friends on Wednesday afternoon with the object of saying farewell to Mr and Mrs P. J. Sladden, who leave shortly to reside in Wellington. Aftei tea on the lawns, the vicar made a presentation of an electric kettle and toaster to the departing guests, accompanied with a short valedictory speech, to which Mr Sladden suitably replied. MARTON WATER SUPPLY As a result of a visit made to the niter station on Thursday afternoon by the Mayor of Marton (Mr F. Purnell), with Councillors A. A. Mcindoe and A. Honeyman to inspect the niter that has given repeated trouble, it was decided to call in Mr R. Fox, enginer to the contracting firm of A. D. Riley and Co. and to install a I simple electrical cut-out device suggested by the engineer to the Wan-ganui-Rangitikei Electric Power | Board, Mr H. Webb, who was also present during the afternoon. The device will automatically cut out the mechanism as soon as the vibration I which causes the trouble commences. BOWLING MARTON v. MANAWATU CENTRE The following players will represent Marton against the Manawatu Centre on the Marton Park this afternoon, commencing at 2 o’clock: Official rink: Way, Hcmpleman, Goebel and Low. WE CAN HELP YOU!” The above is the slogan for the first annual street collection of the Marton Division of St. John Ambulance, which is to be held to-day, during the afternoon and evening. The members collecting will not be collecting from house to house, but in the business area only, and all collectors will be in uniform c»f the order. The central office for the day will be that of the president, Mr. Arthur Way. Any person desiring information regarding the brigade is asked to enquire at this office, where an officer will be in attendance to answer enquiries or to enroll new members. MARTON CARNIVAL EVENING SPORTS An open carnival evening sports meeting will be held on Marton Park on Tuesday, December 21, under the auspices of the Marton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. The programme includes running events for men (100, 220, 440, 880 and one mile), and ladies (75 and 100 yards). Cycling events are half-mile, one mile and two mile handicaps for seniors and juniors.
