RACING IN N.S.W.

DRASTIC CUT ANTICIPATED MAY TOTAL 30 PER CENT. SYDNEY, Nov. 24. The Daily Telegraph says that a drastic cut in the number of race days when the proprietary clubs are converted into non-proprietary clubs is foreshadowed in political circles. It is likely that a 30 per cent, all-round cut in race days will be made throughout the State. A message on November 11 stated: Although the State Government’s proposed new Gaming and Betting Bill, to be introduced next year, aims at abolishing proprietary racing clubs, it will be competent for new clubs or associations to take over the existing racecourses and operate on a nonprofit basis. The existing clubs will be paid for their assets, but the subsequent profits will be used for improving the courses, increasing the prize money and otherwise furthering the interests of racing. The yearly profits of the various proprietary clubs now operating range between £6OOO and £BOOO.
