VISIBILITY AT CORNERS
COMPLAINT BY MOTORISTS. FOXTON-SANSON ROAD Through the Automobile Association (Manawatu), the attention of the Public Works Department recently was drawn to the fact that gorse and trees affected visibility at a number of intersections on the San-son-Foxton section of the main south road. At Wednesday night’s meeting of the executive of the Automobile Association (Wanganui) a copy of a letter from the department was received. This stated that in at least two cases the visibility at intersections was affected by trees and mac these would be cut down when permission was received from the property owners. A member: “Apparently they do not know that they can compel a property owner to cut back trees where visibility is affected.” Mr. K. M. Little (Feilding) expressed the opinion that every time visibility was improved at an intersection the risk of accident was increased. In support of this he pointed out that in Great Britain and in New Zealand the greater proportion of accidents oc- . .curred in the wide, open spaces.*
