FATAL FALL
ROADMAN’S DEATH ACCIDENT ON I’ARAPARA Fatal injuries were received by Mr. William Henry Barry, aged about 45 years, roadman, yesterday morning on the Wanganui-Raetihi Road near the 29-mile peg. Although there were no witnesses of the accident, it is believed that Mr. Barry fell over a bank and then walked a short distance before he collapsed. He was found lying on the road and was conveyed to the Y.M.C.A. building a few hundred yards distant, where he passed away. There were no outward signs of injury. Mr. Barry was employed as a roadman at the Otoko camp of the Public Works Department. The Wanganui St. John Free Ambulance received a call to the camp at 9.15 a.m. but Mr. Barry passed away a few minutes before the arrival of the vehicle. Constable F. W. Edwards later proceeded to the scene of the accident where the body was left until he had carried out investigations.
