DUKE OF WINDSOR
GOING TO AUSTRIA TEMPORARY ABANDONMENT OF HOUSING STUDIES. Received Nov. 7, 9.5 p.m. PARIS, Nov. 6. It is understood that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor are going to Austria shortly, the Duke abandoning his plans to study industrial plants and housing schemes for some months. The Duke, in a statement, emphatically repeats that there is no shadow of justification for any suggestion that he is allied to any industrial system or that he is for or against any political or racial doctrine, and he expresses the earnest hope that after this announcement his real and sincere motive for the proposed visit to America will properly be understood. His Highness will personally convey his thanks to those industrial companies which so generously extended invitations to him, and all who have assisted in the arrangements. According to a later message from Paris it is officially stated on behalf of the Duke of Windsor, that he is remaining in Paris till further notice. Crowds waited vainly outside his hotel, attracted by rumours that the Duke was leaving Paris. The Duke’s spokesman said: “From now on the Duke’s movements will be private, as with the postponement of the visit to the United States the Duke no longer considers himself a public figure.”
