GOLDEN WEDDING
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Barton, Grey Street, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Thursday and were the recipients of many good wishes from their wide circle of friends. Mr. Barton arrived in New Zealand in 1880, and is the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Barton, Pitt House, near Winchester, England. In 1887 he was married by the Rev. A. O. Williams to Miss Margaret Harper, a descendant of two old Wanganui families, her maternal grandfather being the pioneer missionary, the Rev. Richard Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Barton spent nearly 40 years of their married life at Feilding, where for 20 years Mr. Barton was manager of the branch of the Bank of Australasia. Mr. Barton’s two sons, Messrs. Onslow and Cranleigh Barton, both of Christchurch, visited their parents for the golden wedding, and assisted in the entertainment of the guests invited to celebrate the jubilee. Mr. Maurice Barton, their younger >rother, died at Wanganui in 1930.
