RAILWAY TRANSFERS

LOCOMOTIVE BRANCH A number of transfers affecting senior officers in the locomotive branch of the railways have been announced. At the end of the present month, Messrs. G. Evitt and D. Munro, locomotive foremen at Frankton and Taumarunui, respectively, will retire. The locomotive foreman at Wanganui, Mr. F. G. Mayes, and his assistant, Mr. F. A. Ellis, have both been promoted to higher positions. Mr. Mayes will leave Wanganui on November 29 and will replace Mr. Evitt at Frankton. Mr. Ellis, who will leave on November 15, will be assistant locomotive foreman at Wellington. Mr. C. Symes, assistant locomotive foreman, has been appointed to succeed Mr. Mayes at Wanganui, and Mr. A. Edwards, assistant locomotive foreman. Cross Creek, is due at Wanganui on November 8 and will succeed Mr. Ellis. _Mr M. Staunton, assistant locomotive foreman, Auckland, will succeed Mr Munro, at Taumarunui, and Mr T. Torrance, assistant locomotive foreman, Taihape, will replace Mr Staunton at Auckland. Mr T. Dick, road foreman for the Palmerston NorthWanganui area, has been promoted to the position of assistant locomotive foreman, Taihape. Mr C. Sander, one of the senior drivers at Palmerston North, will succeed Mr Dick as road foreman.
