SANDON

N.Z. LABOUR PARTY MANAWATU ELECTORATE COMMITTEE MEETING A well-attended meeting of the Manawatu Labour Representative Committee was held at Sanson recently, the president, Mr. R. E. Downes (Shannon) being in the chair. Mr. C. L. Hunter, M.P., was also pieser.t. Mr. D. C. Sanson, president of the local branch, extended a welcome to the delegates. The president, in his opening remarks, said that this would be the last meeting of the old committee owing to the re-arrangement of the boundaries and it was with some regret that the branch would no longer exist in its present representation. However, he hoped at some future date that a combined meeting would be held in order that the friendships that had been made during the past years could be renewed. General business in connection with the branch organisation was discussed at some length. A resolution was passed expressing appreciation to the member for the district, Mr. C. L. Hunter, and Mrs. Hunter for the work they had carried out in the interest of the electors. Mr. Hunter, in replying, said that he appreciated the reference to the work of both he and Mrs. Hunter and mentioned that he was giving all his time to the work and he appreciated the splendid co-operation he had received from the members of the various branches. It was decided to forward a letter to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, congratulating the Government upon their achievement up io date and assuring him of the continued support of the branch. Arrangements were completed for the formation of the new Labour rep-

ing is to be held at an early date to elect officers. At a suitable juncture a presentation was made by Mr. D. C. Sanson on behalf of the members of the Sanson branch to Messrs. R. E. Downes and F. Shaw as an appreciation of the work they had put into the committee. A suitably reply was made by both gentlemen.
