PAY OF GUNNERS
NEGOTIATIONS TAKE PLACE
M.r. ACTING FOR MEN [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, Oct. 28. Negotiations on behalf of the gunners of the Royal New Zealand Artillery who tendered their resignations on account of dissatisfaction with the present rates of pay are being conducted with the Government by Mr. W. J. Lyon, M.P. for Waitemata. Arrangements have been made for Mr. Lyon to meet the Minister of Finance (Hon. Walter Nash) and the Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Janes). As a result of Mr. Lyon’s action all save three of the men have withdrawn their resignations, as it was thought their former stand might hinder negotiations. However, it was stated by one of the gunners that it was possible that tne reignations would again be handed in if some reasonabel satisfaction wa snot obtained. “We have full confidence in Mr. Lyon who realised the difficulties and injustices which we have had to suffer, and we are anxiously hoping for an early settlement,” he added. It was understood that there was a possibility of an increased schedule of wages being announced at an early date.
