TERRIFIC EXPLOSION
SYDNEY WATERFRONT ONE WORKER DEAD. HANDLING OF FIREWORKS. SYDNEY, Oct. 28. A terrific explosion which caused the death of one man and injured four others occurred at the No. 5 wharf, Darling Harbour, late last night while wharf labourers were loading fireworks on the Niagara. Workers nearby were thrown into the air and hurled many yards. Buildings more than 200 yards away were shaken and had windows broken. It is not definitely known what caused the explosion, but it is believed that a wicker case containing crackers fell heavily on the wharf. Officers of the Explosives Department are still investigating. EXPERT’S DISCLOSURE DANGEROUS FIREWORKS Received Oct. 28, 11.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Oct. 28.
