BRITISH NAVY’S PART STATEMENT IN COMMONS [ British Official Wireless.; RUGBY, Sept. 27. Referring in the debate on the Ad-dress-in-Reply to the Opposition criticism of the Government that General Franco’s objection to the evacuation of refugees from northern Spain had changed the British Government's policy, the Hon. A. Duff Cooper declared that there had been no sucn change, and in its humanitarian work the Navy had acted with impartiality. It was false to say that they had done nothing for the Republicans in Spain. From the northern coast of Spain 80,000 refugees had been evacuated under the protection of British ships and 10,000 had been evacuated by British ships. Of these 80,000 under 10,000 were supporters of the insurgents. RUMOURS DENIED REVOLT IN MADRID. LONDON, Oct. 27. There are rumours on the Continent of a revolt, with street fighting, in Madrid, on receipt of the news of the transference of the Ministries of Defence and Finance to Barcelona following the fall of Gijon, but Madrid reports that all is quiet and that there are no disorders.
