TONGARIRO TRAMPING CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Tongariro Tramping Club was held in Oaakune on Wednesday, October 20, when the president (Mr. Bly th) presided over an excellent attendance of members. The annual report, portions of which appeared in these columns recently, was read and adopted. The statements for the year, presented by the secretary revealed a credit in the general account of £ll 10s 6d. while the hut fund account had a credit of £9 11s. Both reports were adopted. Mr. Shout reported that the moneys of the defunct Kangataua Club, which the club had hoped to use in the cleaning up of the Rangataua Track had been expended in search organisations on the mountains. Mr. Ogden brought up matters relative to the running and arrangements of club trips, and arising from the discussions a motion was carried that all members be notified of the 3monthly schedule on its fixation. The difficulty of keeping in regular touch with all members, owing to lack of facilities was pointed out and a further motion was carried that the incoming committee go into the matter of the purchase of a duplicator. The following amendment to the club rules was made, on the motion of Mr. Mead, seconded by Mr. Shout: “That rule No. 7 be amended by the addition of the following clause: In the case of new members joining the club in the last quarter of the financial year the subscription for the unexpired portion of the year shall be 2s 6d.” The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Hon. Mr. Langstone; president, Mr. T. A. Bly th; vice-presidents, Mr. W. Mead and Mr. T. G. Austin; padre, Rev Trustum; club captain, Mr. T. Shout; vice-captains, Messrs. E. Fetzer and C. Carter; secretary, Mr. G. Hunt; auditor, Mr. J. Callaghan; committee, Messrs. C. Rogers, A. Adlington and D. Ogden. A discussion arose on the desirability of adopting a club motto. The

secretary reported on getting into communication with Mr. James Cowan who had forwarded several suitable mottos. Mr. Shout mentioned •‘Haere Tonu,” as being particularly suited. Il was preferable that a Maori slogan be selected. A motion ./as adopted tnat the committee go into the matter and be empowered to duupl a suitable one. Mr. Mead explained fully what has already been done in the matter ol the club hut, and the arrangements to be carried out. It was mentioned that a club trip into the site would do much toward cleaning up the track and the committee when arranging schedules are to organise a trip for this purpose. Mr. Mead stressed the need for co-operation in I the undertaking and the weight nf all I members behind the venture. I The secretary reported on the Taii hape visits, and that it had been found desirable that they, form theii own club. There is every possibility, though, of members being gained from Taihape. | A committee meeting was appointed to be held at Raetihi on Monday, ’November 1, when the programme for the first quarter of the year will be drafted. Members seemed in favour of a club trip to Kapiti Island nver the Christmas or New Year holidays. Apologies for absence were recowed ! from Messrs. McCorkindale, Fetzer and Mahoney. Tvventy-fnur new members were elected to the club. The meeting closed with the usual vote of thanks to the chair. WAIMARINO GOLF CLUB During the coming week-end the Shakespeare Memorial competition in conjunction with the fourth StableIford bogey will be played off. Intending competitors are asked to arrange their own partners and sign the sheet 'before starting. Ladies are to add three strokes to their handicaps. The Waimarino Golf Club was represented by Messrs. 11. V. Marshall, M. C. Gould, A. G. Urwin, C. Jackson, and M. Sullivan at ine Taumarunui Labour Day tournament. C. Jackson won the junior medal and Stableford bogey competitions, whilst H. V. Marshall was beaten in the final of a handicap flight at the 18th. Good gojfing conditions prevailed and I he course was in good order except for the greens, which were variable. PERSONAL Mr. F. A. Letford, of Wellington, is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Marshall. The latest news from Miss Nancy Fagg advises that she is holiday-mak-ing in Scotland, and will shortly cross over to France. Miss N. Wilforo, of Auckland, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Laing, of Raetihi. Raetihi was visited by the following ex-residents during the Labour Day week-end: Messrs. Jack Lynn,
