MAGISTRATE’S COURT John Allan, labourer, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment on a charge of vagrancy, by Messis E. F. Hemingway and W. F. Sheild, J.P.’s, in the Patea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Constable Kelly, who arrested accused on Tuesday, gave evidence that Allan arrived in Patea last Friday, and since then had been camping out in the open amongst the lupins. He warned him to leave Patea e:i Sunday last, but he had turned up again. GOLI LADIES’ CLOSING DAY Enjoyable golf marked the closing tof the Patea ladies’ club on Wednesday, the Canadian foursome being won by Mrs F. Bostock and Miss N. • Hurley. Approaching and putting J was won by Mrs T. E. Roberts from a play-off with Misses Carey and Hurley, and long-driving was won by Miss K. Hurley. Miss L. Carey (vice-cap-tain) presented the trophies, and also made a presentation of a crystal

OBITUARY j The death occurred in the Patea Hospital on Wednesday of Thomas Hurley, aged 64, third son of the late John and Ellen Hurley, of Whenuakura.
