RACING AT BULLS

RANGITIKEI MEETING ATTRACTIVE CARD An attractive card will be presented at Bulls to-morrow when the Rangitikei Racing Club’s spring meeting will be held, seven events constituting a programme which should draw a large crowd from Wanganui and Palmerston North and the intervening district. The totalisator will be operated on the single-pool system, with dividends on first and second horses where the number of starters is in excess of four. The starter at the meeting will be Mr W. C. Price, and Mr A. V. O’Brien will be in the judge’s box. The first event is set down to start at 12.30 p.m., which is a very convenient arrangement in these days of 12 o’clock closing on Saturdays if the whole holiday is not being observed. The intervals will be 45 minutes and the last race is set down for 5 p.m. Several Wanganui horses arc engaged in various events to-morrow, and some of them were sent along yesterday morning on the outside of the course proper. Imposture and Scarf Dance, who are in the hack sprints, slipped over five furlongs, the former being in front and registering lmin. 3 3-ssec. That the track was fast was evidenced by their “breaking” 24sec. for the initial quarter. Airing, winner of the open six at Waverley on Monday, left four furlongs behind in 51 l-ssec. It will be stronger opposition to-morrow, but the Cockpit gelding should hold his own. Captain Treville went three furlongs only, taking 37sec., but he has been improved as a result of his Waverley effort, where he nearly sprang a surprise. He is one of the Trial Stakes candidates, and raced at Waverley in Mr C. A. Henderson’s colours,'Mr H. Theodore having dis-' posed of his interest in the Gascony gelding. Baron Bold, who is also in the Trial Stakes, took lmin. 6 2-ssec. for five furlongs on number one track, but he moved srrjirtly over the early stages. Reipar was given useful work and has not suffered any ill-effects from his Waverley Cup effort.
