NEGLIGENT DRIVING
MOTORIST SENT TO GAOL [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Oct. 27. A sentence of nine months’ imprisonment with hard labour, was pased on Frederick Nicholas Lindbolm, electrician, by Mr Justice Callan, at the Supreme Court. He was also prohibited from obtaining a mo-tor-driver’s licence for five years. Lindbolm was found guilty last week of negligently driving a motorcar so as to cause the death of Mrs Ivy Cavenett, on May 9 last, when the motor-car he was driving collided with a tramcar just after midnight, and Mrs Cavenett, who was a passenger in Lindholm’s car was thrown out and died from injuries. The jury added a recommendation to mercy. His Honour said in September, 1936, prisoner was convicted of being intoxicated in charge of a motor-cycle and fined 15 and his driver’s licence cancelled for one year and he was prohibited. There were also eleven previous convictions of various kinds against the prisoner. “My duty is clear,” said the Judge. “I am sorry for his parents, who he is said to be supporting. This is not a case where a fine would meet the needs of justice.
