ACCESS FOR ANGLERS
WEST OF LAKE TAUPO. CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ROAD. A party of Public Works Department surveyors at present camped at Acacia Bay is engaged in the survey of a road around the western side of Lake Taupo. It is proposed to construct the road as far as Rangatira Point, a distance of six miles, as the first section.
This road is of particular interest to anglers, as owing to the sheltered locality it means that when conditions are unsuitable on the eastern side, such as at Waitahanui, Four Mile Bay, etc., fishermen will be able to travel by car to a fishing area which is most suitable for every class of fishing, particularly fly fishing. It is rarely that unfavourable fishing weather is encountered in this locality. The road as far as Acacia Bay is some distance from the lake edge, but access roads are being provided to the most suitable fishing spots. Beyond this point the road will practically follow the lake.
It is understood that the sum of £2950 will be available for the work and that a commencement with the actual formation will be made in the near future. It is, indeed, hoped to have the road available during the coming season.
