RAETIHI

WAIMARINO COUNTY COUNCIL The usual monthly meeting of the above council was held in the council rooms on Saturday last. Correspondence was received as follows:—

From New Zealand Employers’ Federation re Wellington Local Bodies Ollicers’ Agreement.—Received. The honorary secretary of the Karioi School committee wrote asking that a blind corner on this road be widened as it is dangerous in its present condition.—Agreed to attend to this when labour is available. From Beli, Gully, McKenzie and Evans, solicitors, Wellington, re Buchanan Bros, estate, and commenting on the disrepair into which the Turakina Valley Road has been allowed to fall. —Received. From the Public Works Department Taumarunui, enclosing copy of a letter received from D. Ryan, Pokako, applying for the purchase of the splitting rights for firewood on the main highway road.—Council regretted that they were unable to sell these. The Hon. Minister of Lands, wrote re the supplementary estimates to complete the metalling of Matahiwi Road to Mr. Pearce's corner.—Received.

An acknowledgement was received from the Department of Agriculture re the proposal to merge the Rangataua Town District with the County of Waimarino, stating that the council's reason for disagreement to this proposal had been noted. A petition was received from the Makino Road ratepayers, requesting their transfer from the Ruatiti to Manganui Riding. Several reasons were put forward for the councils consideration, petitioners pointing out that the natural boundary of the ridings concerned would be much better defined by this change. The Makino settlers have no community interests with Ruatiti, the children attending at Orautoha. In this connection, council had also received a request from the Ruatiti ratepayers that in the event of council agreeing to the Makino settlers’ request, council would give Ruatiti similar treatment.. The matter was adjourned for further consideration.
