NEW KIND OF PHEASANT
BIRD REARED IN HAWKE’S BAY FINE SPORTING QUALITY L Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. A new type of pheasant of fine sporting qualities has been evolved by Mr. F. D. Robson, curator of the Hawke’s Bay game farm at Greenmeadows, according to information received at a meeting of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society to-night. The bird is larger than the Mongolian, has a dark green plumage instead of the usual copper red colour. The hens are almost black and speckled, and resemble the Ancona. The hen birds are said to be very fast on the wing. SIX KIWIS POISONED PHOSPHORISED POLLARD. PHEASANTS VICTIMS ALSO. [ Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. A case of six kiwis found poisoned at Ngatapa, Hawke’s Bay, through eating phosphorised pollard laid for rabbits, was brought before the Wellington Acclimatisation Society’s meeting to-night. It was stated that the same poison had killed off all pheasants on the property where it was laid.
