Jolley, schoolhouse, Pakipaki. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Long, of Wellington, are visitors to Wanganui. Mrs. J. Glenn and Miss Neville Glenn, Bell Street, have returned from W'aipukurau. Mrs. W. Wilson, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, has returned to Wanganui. • • • • Miss Manchester, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs. Erling Ziesler, vVicksteed Street. Mrs. A. Guthrie, of Wellington, who is spending a holiday in Wanganui as the guest of the Misses Fraser, Liverpool Street, is going into the country for a few days and will then return to Wanganui. Mrs. J. C. Wickham, Dominion vicepresident of the W.D.F.U., went to Palmerston North early in the week to address a meeting organised by the Palmerston North branch of the W.D.F.U. to meet the Dominion president, Mrs. J. F. Drake, who was unable to be present. Her place was taken by Mrs. Wickham, who had gone down at an hour’s notice, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Millward, of Gonville, left yesterday afternoon for Dannevirke to attend the golden wedding celebration of Mrs. Millward’s uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. F. C. H. Baddeley. Other relatives who were present for the family gathering were Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Baddeley, and Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Baddeley, of Kakatahi, Mr. and Mrs. P. N. Baddeley and Mr. F. S. Baddeley, of Raetihi and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gibbons, of Lower Hutt. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. H. Baddeley were married at Nelson, the Rev. Poole (father of the bride), officiating. Mrs. Baddeley is a sister of Mr. S. H. Poole, Wanganui. They have received congratulations from a large circle of friends.
An interested visitor to the Y.M.C.A. rooms on Monday during the packing of the goods sent in for the Porirua appeal, was Mrs. A. Guthrie, of Wellington, president of the welfare branch of the Women’s National Reserve. Mrs. Guthrie was the originator of the Porirua appeal which was started about 16 years ago in Wellington. To-day, there are about 2J different districts helping in this cause. Each district takes a different month, thus spreading out the benefits throughout the whole year, which means that all in the hospital participate. The Christmas fund supplies money for picnics and outings whicn give great pleasure to the inmates.
