Shipment of Sulphur. Bringing approximately 1500 tons of Japanese sulphur for Kempthorne, Prosser and Company’s Aramoho chemical works, the Yamashita-Kosen Kaisha Line steamer Chifuku Maru cleared Lyttelton for Wanganui at 4.55 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chifuku Maru, which is also bringing general cargo, was expected to berth at Castlecliff early this morning. After discharge, the vessel will sail for Lyttelton to load sheep for Japan.

Opera House in Use. The Wanganui Opera House was used last evening for the lirst occasion since the evening of June 23 last when the building was gutted by lire. Last night’s function was a professional wrestling encounter, and a similar event was staged on the evening prior to the fire. The improved appearance of the interior was noticeable last evening, the odour of paint reminding the audience that the building had undergone renovation. A strict watch for lighted cigarettes was kept by firemen on duty in the hall last evening, and those men who lit cigarettes in the building at the conclusion of the contest were tactfully reminded that smoking was prohibited.
