BEEF VALLES STEADY. SHEEP MARKET FIRM. [ Per Press Association. 1 AUCKLAND, Oct. 13. Steady values at recent high rates were maintained for beef at Westfield to-day. The yarding showed a slight increase in numbers and while the ox quality was satisfactory that of the cows was below standard. Extra choice ox sold at 41s per 1001 b.; choice and prime, 37s to 40s; unfinished, 27s to 365. Extra heavy steers ranged from £l6 7s 6d to £lB 15s; heavy, £l5 to £l7; medium, £l3 10s to £l5 17s 6d; light, £ll 5s to £l3 17s 6d; unfinished, £8 10s to £ll 15s; extra heavy cows and heifers, £ll to £l3 10s; heavy, £ll 15s; medium, £8 to £lO 15; light, £6 to £8 15s; unfinished, £3 10s to £7.
A short supply of sheep lacked prime quality, but all values were very firm. Shorn sheep predominated. Heavy woolly wethers made 39s to 41s 6d; medium, 37s to 395; light, 31s to 37s 6d; unfinished, 29s to 345, heavy shorn wethers, 31s 6d to 33s 9d; medium, 29s 6d to 335; light, 29s 6d to 31s 3d; unfinished, 28s 6d to 29s 3d; extra heavy woolly ewes, 34s to 37s 6d; heavy, 32s to 345; medium, 29s 6d to 31s 9d; light, 24s to 295; unfinished, 5s to 255; extra heavy shorn ewes, 24s to 28s; heavy, 22s to 265; medium, 20s to 245; prime woolly hoggets, 23s 6d to 395; shorn, 24s 6d; unfinished, 16s to 235; spring lambs, 22s to 36s 6d. A full entry of calves again included a few prime runners and heavy vealers which made firm late rates. Plain and smaller sorts declined about 3s a head. Runners made £3 12s to £8 Ils; heavy vealers, £5 5s to £6 8s; medium, £4 8s to £5 3s; light, £3 10s to £4 7s: smaller, £3 7s to £3 9s; unfinished, 19s to 38s: rough, 15s to 445; bobby, 5s to 15s.
