LIVESTOCK MARKETS

THE WANGANUI SALE GOOD SHEEP YARDING A good yarding of sheep was offered at Freeman R. Jackson’s weekly sale held yesterday. In other sections the yarding was average, but the attendance was not as good as usual. The store sheep eale was inclined to drag, with business hard to transact. Little interest was taken in the store cattle section, which, for the most part, were yearling run-bred steers and heifers. Fat cattle were on a par with last week but fat sheep were just a shade easier. All classes of pigs sold well at high values; the best sale for some time. No vealers were yarded. Sheep.—Prime woolly ewes, 32s 9d, 345; light, 29s 6d, 31s 9d; prime shorn, 21s, 225; prime woolly hoggets, 32s 6d, 34s 8d; shorn, 22s 6d, 245; woolly ewe hoggets, 39s 6d, 435; wether hoggets, 29s 6d, 30s. Cattle.—Yearling S.H. and Holstein steers, 15 7s 6d, £5 14s; yearling Jersey heifers, £3 2s 6d, £3 ss; good boner cows, £4 5s ,£5; average, £2 10s, £3 17s 6d; light bulls, £3 2s 6d, £4 10s. Cattle.—Fat Hereford cows and heifers, £8 15s, £10; light, £B, £8 12s 6d; prime Holstein S.H. heifers, £8 ss, £lO 2s; prime ex dairy cows to £10; light, £6 10s, £8 ss; yearling pedigree milking S.H. bulls, 18 to 20 guineas; springing dairy cows, £6 ss, £7; ditto, heifers, £4 Ils, £7. Pigs.—Light baconers, £2 15s, £2 17s; porkers, £2 ss, £2 Ils; light, £1 15s, £2 2s 6d; small stores, 265, 275; good weaners, 235, 25s 6d; small, 16s, 20s. VALUES AT ADDINGTON WOOLLY SHEEP DECLINE FAT CATTLE FIRM. [Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 13. Entries were larger at to-day's Addington market, particularly in the fat sheep and fat cattle sections. Fat cattle fully maim ned their values, but heavy woolly sheep met with a sharp decline. Shorn sheep were selling well. Store Sheep.—Mostly wether hoggets and ewes and lambs. The best of the latter, all counted, sold, for Romney cross, to 24s 4d; good wether hoggets, to 22s 6d; shorn wethers, to 18s 6d; best ewe hoggets, to 3Ts. Spring Lambs.—A small entry of 110 head, which sold from lid per lb. to near 12d. The market could have taken more fat sheep. Close on 5000 were yarded. An easing in skin values had a marked effect on the sale, big woolly wethers being down by up to 4s a head, and woolly ewes by up to 2s. Shorn sheep fully maintained recent values. Best wethers made to 49s Id; prime heavy, 38s to 42s 6d; good medium weights, 36s to 38s; best ewes, to 47s 4d; good ewes, 34s to 38s; prime medium weight, 31s to 33s 6d. Fat Cattle.—A total of 485 were penned, more than for some time. However, there was no easing in values, the best beef selling from 38s to 40s per lOOlbs., and, in some instances, up to 42s 6d; medium to good, 36s to 38s. Heavy steers made to £l9 17s 6d; good prime heavy, £l4 to £l7; others down to £10; best heifers, to £l4 17s 6d; good, £lO to £l2; best cows, £lO 10s to £l2 10s; others, down to £7 ss.

Vealers were easier in demand, but good vealers sold well, the best runners to £8 18s 6d; vealers, £2 10s to £5 10s. Dairy cattle met with a slow market for a poor quality offering. Store Cattle.—A few good pens of straight coloured steers sold up to £7 6s and £7 Ils for two-year-olds, and to £8 13s 6d for three year. Fat Pigs.—A good market, there being little change in values. Light porkers made from 42s 6d to £3 8s 6d. The average price per lb. was 7ld to Bid. Baconers made £3 6s 6d to £5 Ils 6d; and the average price per lb. was 71d to Bd.

Store Pigs.—A brisk sale throughout. Weaners made 10s 6d to 225; stores, 28s to 395; sows in pig, £4 to £6 ss.
