A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr C. C. Rasmussen was passed at yesterday’s meeting of the Waitotara County Council. Reference was made to the kindly donation of trees made by Mr Rasmussen during his lifetime and the clerk was instructed to convey the council’s appreciation of his gifts.

Warm appreciation of the services rendered during the season by the honorary secretary, Mr. R. Gibb, was expressed at the annual meeting of the surf section of the Royal Life-Sav-ing Society last nigat. Tribute was paid to the satisfactory annual report and balance-sheet, and Mr. Gibo was unanimously voted an honorarium as a mark of appreciation.

At the annual meeting of the Wanganui Rowing Association held last night a vote of thanks was accorded Mr J. G. Whetton, the association’s representative of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association. Mention was made of Mr Whetton’s good services to the sport and the manner in which he at all times promoted the interest of rowing in this city.

Mr. Leon Francis Carveil, whose death at Melbourne was announced recently, was a son of Mrs. M. Carveil, of Springvale, and the late Mr. William Carveil. The deceased was a well-known Wanganui resident and conducted a carrying business here for several years. He was of a most cheerful and likeable disposition and had many friends in the city and district who will sincerely regret to learn of his passing. Recently he underwent a severe operation and hopes were entertained at the time that he would make a speedy recovery.
