ANZAC PARADE ASSAULT
CAR DRIVER SEES POLICE
MRS. THOMPSON’S CONDITION The inquiry into the Anzac Parade assault, as a result of which Mrs Una Thompson.still lies in the Wanganui Public Hospital in a serious condition, was continued yesterday by the special force of detectives in the city. As a result of publication in the “Chronicle” of the fact that the police desired to communicate with the driver of a car seen parked near Nixon’s Creek Bridge at 12.25 a.m. on the Sunday, the man in question arrived at the detective office last night and made a statement.
Mrs Thompson’s condition yesterday was reported to be comfortable. She is mending slowly, but the type of injury is such that her strength and general condition are liable to fluctuate. She could he reasonably comfortable one day and much worse the next. When her strength has been sufLckntly regained there is now a distinct possibility of her being able to strengthen the police inquiry.
