KAIIWI
SCHOOL CONCERT The annual school concert was held on October 7 in the Kai Iwi Hall. A capacity house showed Its appreciation of the programme by generous applause and repeated demands for encores. The programme was as follows: Songs by the school; recitations, Masters L. Robinson, R. Giles, K Morrison, Paul Te Uawiri, W. King!; pianoforte solo, Denise Moffitt; sketch, “Hot News,” J. Rountree, L. Shannon, I. Gardiner, J. Robinson, E. Reardon and R. Papworth; junior play, “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep,” R. Giles, J. Gilbody, A. Reardon and Dorothy Payne; dance and song, “Brownies and Fairies,” primers and Standard I; drill display, seniors; play, “The Black Tulip,” Noreen and Mona Gilbody, L. Shannon and L. Giles; musical game, “Three Little Pigs,” primers and Standard I. A party of local Maoris, under the direction of Mr. E. Te Uawiri, contributed a popular number, which for song, rhythm and setting earned general admiration. A feature of this item was the solo singing of Master J. Imea.
At the close of the programme the chairman (Mr. E. Rountree) thanked the parents and children for their splendid effort on the school’s behalf and paid a tribute to the teachers for their work in training the children. Mr. Rountree welcomed Mr. D. McKay, an ex-head teacher of the school, whom one and all were pleased to have with them on that occasion. The concert was followed by a dance (M.C., Mr. C. Morrison) interspersed with children's games.
