BUDGET DEBATE

REPLY TO OPPOSITION FORECAST OF MR. NASHS SPEECH. [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. An indication of the nature of the reply he would make to the Opposition in the debate on the Budget was given to-day by the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash. “I shall not shirk anything,” he said. “I have a complete answer to all the questions that have been raised. Mr. Hamilton has said that £8,000,000 is missing, and Mr. Bodkin has suggested a flight of capital overseas. These are points that can be explained.”

Asked whether he would deal in detail with the Government’s banking policy, Mr. Nash said he had this question under consideration but had not reached a decision. At present he did not think he would go into any great detail on the subject. It probably will be some days yet before Mr. Nash makes a reply on the lines indicated.
