AT BELMONT LINKS WANGANUI TOURNAMENT DRAW FOR CHAMPIONSHIP The Wanganui provincial golf , championship tournament will be held ' at the Belmont links this week, play ; commencing on Thursday and coni tinuing on Friday and Saturday. Most of the leading golfers in the district will be competing, included in the en- ' trants being the amateur champion of . New Zealand, B. M. Silk, the runner- ; up, A. R. Kitto, and several other local golfers who have won national and provincial honours. On Thursday two qualifying rounds, each over eighteen holes, will be plafc’- , ed, the sixteen leading players qualifying for the match play in the championship. The next sixteen best gross scores will qualify for the Balgownie Handicap, and of the remaining competitors the sixteen with the lowest net scores will qualify for the Seaview Handicap. The next sixteen with the lowest net scores will qualify for the Terawhiti Handicap. The first and second rounds of match play will take place on Friday, and the semi-finals will be played Saturday morning, the finals being scheduled for Saturday afternoon, the championship linal being set down to start at 1 p.m. The winner of the championship will receive a trophy, and will be entitled to hold the Lomax Championship Cup for one year. TAWHERO CLUB LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP During the week-end the semifinals of the ladies’ championship of the Tawhero Golf Club were decided, and the men played the second rounds for the junior and intermediate handicap cups. The intermediate ladies played the second round for the Lawrence Cup. Following are the best scores returned: — Ladies’ Championship Mrs. Bonner won from Mrs. Fisher. NORTH AND SOUTH ISLAND TITLES SEPARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS DECISION OF ASSOCIATION [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. The question of holding separate North and South Island championships in addition to the national charm pionships was discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association to-day. After considerable discussion it was decided to institute such championships, but to exclude professionals who, it was pointed out, already had their own championship and open in which to compete. The motion was carried by 52 to 43.
