HITHER AND THITHER

Labour Party Dance Dance enthusiasts are reminded of the dance being held by the Labour rParty in the Wanganui East Town Hall to-night.

Combined Sports’ Dance To-night, in the Glasgow Street Hall, the Aramoho Boating Club and the Wanganui Harrier Club again combine to run another dance. These functions are proving eminently successful, due no doubt, to the bountiful supper and “snappy” music. Novelties and a good floor, as well as two Monte Carlos, add to the attractions. Mr E. Gowan is the capable M.C.

Friday’s Ball at Marton Next Friday night (June 25) is the date of the Marton A. and P. Association annual ball, which this year is to be a grand Coronation ball, it is being eagerly looked forward to as an event not to be missed. The members of the committee who manage the function have made a name in Marton and surrounding districts for successful organisation and all arrangements have been finalised for a successful ball. Those who attend will have the pleasure of dancing to music played by Vinsen's Ambassadors’ Novelty Band. On Friday night there wilt be a stream of cars from all points of the compass to the Civic Theatre, Marton, where the event will take place. l):«nce Recital Miss Jean Heid’s presentation of "’rhe Story Book Ball’’ at the Majestic Theatre, is a galaxy of colour and dancing. Miss Thelma Dandy charms the audience with her singing of the “Story Book Ball," introducing all those much-loved nursery rhyme characters, Jack Horner, 80-Peep. Tom-Tom, the King and Queen of Hearts, and many others, who appear from a book on the stage. Miss Joan Peters dances delightfully as Peter Piper’s daughter, and June Healey and Colleen Bradley perform a charming old world duo and persuade all on the stage to dance-with them. An outstanding number is Prince Charming (Joan Peters) and the Princess (Thelma Dandy) dancing a graceful operatic duo which ends with all dancing and singing round them. The recital concludes with a dainty solo by Miss Jean Reid, who is an outstanding dancer and who holds a diploma of the Royal Academy of Dancing. London.

A Novel Questionnaire Do you clean and manicure your nails in tram or train? Do you talk with your mouth full? Do you open your mouth when you are eating? Do you hold your table knife incorrectly that is, between thumb and first linger? Is your general manner rowdy and undignified? When you are spoken to, do you say, “Eh?” or “What?” or "I beg yours?” Do you refer to your sweetheart as “the boy friend?” Does your voice become high and strident when you are ruffled? Do you correct grammatical errors of your friends in front of other people? The New Idea for May 28 asks its readers to discover if they are well bred by answering a set of forty questions, a few of which are given above.
