AUSTRALIAN WOOL
POSSIBLE SERIOUS RIVAL LONDON, June 8. What may turn out to be a serious rival to Australian wool has been discovered by Mr. Townsend, chief investigation officer of the Customs Department. While on a visit to Czechoslovakia he inspected the Bata Shoe Company, the largest boot firm in the world. Scientists explained the development of artificial wool and rubber, and claimed that the latter was more costly than the natural article but proved equal in necessary qualities, and it is definitely more durable. It was claimed that artificial wool, which was manufactured under a different process to the German, had all the characteristics of sheep’s wool, especially regarding warmth and absorption of moisture. CELLULOSE WOOL GERMANY’S OUTPUT BERLIN, June 8. The year’s production of cellu'lous wool is estimated at 80,000 tons, increasing to 140,000 by 1938.
