THE PHILIPPINES
INDEPENDENCE PLAN OPPOSED Received June 7, 8.10 p.m. MANILA, June 6. Opposition to President Quezon’s independence plan was only voiced for the first time to-day by a group of wealthy planters and financiers, who contended that the Philippines were unfit for self-government. They urged a continuation of the Commonwealth of the Philippines and a modification of the Tydings-McDuffie Act. The confederation of associations of sugar cane planters will present a resolution to that effect to the United States.
