MAJESTIC THEATRE
"WHEN YOU’RE IN LOVE.” Grace Moore’s eloquent singing has been combined with an engaging light comedy by Robert Riskin, screen author of ‘‘lt Happened One Night” and ‘‘Mr. Deeds Goes To Town,” in Columbia’s newest musical triumph, “When You’re In Love,” which is now being screened at the Majestic Theatre. Cary Grant appears opposite Miss Moore, with Aline MacMahon, Henry Stephenson, Thomas Mitchell, Catharine Doucet and Luis Albernl in support. Unlike Miss Moore’s first memorable hit, “One Night of Love,” her latest film vies away from the cycle-cursed romanticdrama with operatic interpolations to present instead a whimsical, lighthearted romantic-comedy traversing the full range of musical entertainment. Miss Moore’s musical repertory, for instance, includes such diversified numbers as “Vissi Darte” from Puccini’s “Tosca” and “One Fine Day” from “Madame Butterfly”; the waltz aria from “Romeo and Juliet” by Verdi; Schubert’s “Serenade”; “In the Gloaming” by Annie F. Harrison; “Siboney” by Lecuona; “Minnie th’e Moocher” by Cab Calloway; and two specially written songs by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields called “Whistling Boy” and “Our Song.” In addition, there is a spectacular ballet sequence staged by Leon Leonidoff, dance maestro of the Radio City Music Hall, New York. Robert Riskin’s unique genius finds full scope for its expression in “When You're In Love” in the dual-capacity of direc-tor-scenarist. It is his first attempt as a full-fledged director, but he brings to the post almost five years of invaluable experience gained in collaboration with Frank Capra, ace of Hollywood directors, on such films as the aforementioned “It Happened One Night” and “Mr. Deeds Goes To Town” and “Lady For a Day,” “Broadway Bill” and “American Madness.”
