USE IN LIGHTERING MEAT [ Per Presß Association. ] AUCKLAND, May 29. A barge built by the Auckland fi ..i of Lowe and Son to the order of the New Zealand Refrigerating Coy., left Auckland to-day in the tow of the motor-ship Port Waikato for Wanganui. It will be used to convey meat from the company’s works at Imlay to liners in the Wanganui roadstead. Built of three skins, it is a kauri vessel 70 feet long with a beam of eight feet. The one hold runs the full length of the vessel, which is insulated for the carriage of frozen produce. The barge, which is doubleended, is specially constructed for crossing the Wanganui River bar and lightering work. It has a steering wheel and rudder but will be towed when in use. The firm will commence immediately the construction of a sister vessel.
