The senior Rugby lootball competition concluded on Saturday, after which the “Moye Scheme” will be brought into operation, commencing on June 12. There was no senior match st Mor* ton, Old Boys journeying to Halcombe to meet the latter team on its own ground. Bulls Defeat Hunterville The Hunterville football fans witnessed a good match on Saturday, when Bulls defeated Hunterville by 9 points to 3. The game from the first whistle was very eager, and although Hunterville were beaten by six points, there was very little between the two teams. At half-time the score was three to nil in favour of Bulls. The second spell was even mors lively than the first end some excellent football was seen. H. Taiuru played an outstanding game for Hunterville, but the remainder of the backs did not seem to have the'same combination as did the Bulls backs, but the Hunterville forwards were able to hold their own against the heavy Bulls pack. For Bulls P. Bending played a perfect game at half-back. He was without doubt the best player on the ground. James played his usual solid game, while Lawrence and Williams also played very good football. For Bulls, P. Williams and Culpan scored tries, while Stock kicked a oeautiful penalty goal from near the half-way line. Hunterville’s three points came from a penalty kick by H. Rowe. Mr. R. Rivers held the whistle. k Old Boys Defeated at Halcombe Old Boys were . defeated at Halcomoe by 8 points to 5. The game was mostly confined to forward play, except for one or two good runs by the wing three-quarters. The match could not be termed as an exciting one, but nevertheless it was interesting owing to the fact that the two teams were so even. At naif-time the score was five-all. In the second spell the game became rather rouga and more than once players might have been warned for tneir rough tactics. This spoilt the game to a certain extent, and what might have been a very exciting second spell, really turned into t fist dual at lime, N. Williams being rather prominent in these. For Old boys, a Marshall played a sound game, oeing responsiole for Old Boys’ live points. ±ie scored a rood try and converted it. H. rarkes ——- A. Watt played well in the backs, the former oeing very uniortunate in breaking a tendon in his ankle, which will prooably keep him from playing for the rest of the season. R. Bridge, H. Marshall and barsen played soiicny in the Old Boys’ pack. Halcombe’s points came from a try by I* Davies, which was converted by J. Barker. Barker also kicked a penalty goal. The teams took the field as Yow:Old Boys.—H. Marshall, E. McLean E. Olliver, L. Larsen, C. Anderson, R. Whitcombe, D. Huirigan R. Bridge, A. Watt, H. Parkes, A. Cairncross and A. Busht Halcombe.—J. Junior Match at Marton—Old Boys 6. Hunterville 3 The only game that was played in Marton was between Old Boys and hunterville juniors. This game was not as good as was anticipated. There were too many infringements, and far too many penalty kicks to make the match an interesting and lively one. All the points came frtm penalty kicks, and not once was either line crossed. For Old Boys, A. Duncan kicked two penalties, while Hunterville’s three points were added by J. Ulston with a good kick. The teams U>ok the field as follows: Old Boys.—C. Calkin, S. Christopher, L. Moss, J. Hutton, E. Twigg, K. Gatrell, A. Duncan, R. Windleburn, T. McCaul, W. Davidson, B. Graham, S. Wasson, F. Death, E. Livingstone, and P. Williams, who was later replaced by Calkin, owing to receiving a nasty knock on the hip. Hunterville.—u. Illston, Taylor, Hirst, Granville, Bartlett, Hurley, Alerby, Pettis, Simpson, Wills, Loveridge, Dillan, Burnett, Gordon and Parkes. Mr. N. Cairncross controlled the game.
