CROWD DISAPPROVES CONTEST AT AUCKLAND STEIN BEATS RUMBERG [ Per Press Aiwclxtlon. ] AUCKLAND, May 30. Solid wrestling, devoid of showmanship, characterised the professional match between Sammy Stein and Hal Rumberg last night. Rumberg obtained a fall in the third round when, following some forearm jolting, he sprang quickly off the ropes and took Stein to the mat with a flying body scissors and easily pressed his shoulders down. Stein evened the falls in the seventh round, a succession of flying tackles paving the way for a body press. No fall resulted in the final round. There was a storm of disapproval when the referee gave a points decision in favour of Stein. HARD, FAST CONTEST DISPLAY AT DUNEDIN SPELLMAN BEATS BLOMFIELD [ Per Press Association. ] DUNEDIN, May 30. In what was one of the best wrestling bouts ever seen here Jack Spellman (16.0) defeated Lofty Blomiield (16.6) last night by two tails to one. Blomfield scored with an octopus clamp in the third round, Spellman equalising in the fifth with an aeroplane spin, dump and body press. Following three terrific dumps Blomfield was groggy in the sixth and the American had no difficulty in securing another fall with an aeroplane spin and body press. It was a hard, fast contest, devoid of showmanship, Spellman’s display marking him as one of the cleverest wrestlers who has ever appeared at Dunedin.
