RANGITIKEI LADIES’ GOLF CLUB Results of a Stableford bogey played on Thursday: Miss K. Amon 18, Miss Kilgour-Carter 17. Mrs Hendry and Miss Stevens, each 14. RUGBY FOOTBALL Last Saturday’s defeat appears to have spurred Bulls seniors on. for practice was well attended on Thursday night, and players will strip very fit against Hunterville to-day. The previous week training was undertaken on the concrete footpaths of the town block, with the result that leg troubles were common, and possibly this accounts for the poor form shown at Marton Park. Goodall, who has a severe cold, will not be playing to-day. and Culpaii (the crack wing three-quarter) met with an accident while loading hay on Thursday, and will also be an absentee. It is hoped that Lawrence, who had to stand down owing to a knock above a knee, will be seen on the field today. He is only a youth, but is the brains of the rearguard, and he was greatly missed last week. Probably the side to-day will come from: Stock, Bending. Williams, Campbell, Hallamore, Lawrence. Cutts, Guppwcli, Carter, Potaka, James, Jim Cole. B. Ellery, Robinson and R. Ellery. The bus will leave Bulls at 1.15 p.m. Bulls juniors have been encouraged by their fine win last week, and are in strong training for a return game with Halcombe juniors at Bulls today, the game commencing at 3 p.m. Mr A. Faulding will control the match and the Bulls side will be selected from the following:—Joe Cole, J. Carter, R. Winiata, D. Stantiall, T. Ellery, R. Ellery. L. Gray, J. Ellery, J. Henderson. J. Carthy, G. de Burgh, J. Langdon. C. Wasson, J. Hart, L. Bromley, and D. Ross. It is difficult to understand why larger centres than Bulls cannot field teams in the third-grade competition. Here there are any number of good boys, and they are very enthusiastic. To-day they will journey to Hunterville, the bus leaving Bulls at 12.15, and the team will be picked from the following:—G. Torrey, S. Teko, S. Green, K. Mullins, A. Button. N. Ellery, F. Garard, J. Bromley, J. Eyles, A. Harper, J. Signal. D. Harper, J. Young, J. Klatt, A. Torrev, G. Bromley, N. Bromley, A. Klatt, and N. Grossart. GENERAL NEWS Mr W. Rowell, who met with an accident recently, and afterwards went under an operation to repair broken bones in his cheek, is about again, and is progressing favourably. The committee of the Ladies’ Rest and Plunket rooms movement have decided to hold a dance and card party in the Town Hall on the King’s Birthday, Wednesday, June 9, and particulars will be advertised later. Two locally-trained horses, Spender and Malibu, will probably be seen out at the Foxton meeting to-day, and as they are in fairly forward condition their running will be of interest to local sportsmen. The condition of the young man from this district who was taken to Palmerston North Hospital as a positive case of infantile paralysis is reported to be quite favourable, and it is not expected that he will suffer permanent disablement.
