BULLS

BULLS FOOTBALL GLI B ANNUAL MEETL<; Mr J. Preston, president, presided over an attendance of over 40 members at the annual general meeting of the Bulls Football Club, held on Monday evening. Full senior and junior teams were promised, as well as a fair third grade fifteen, and the season ap pears brighter here than for the past years. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted, the re port adding:— "The committee have pleasure in presenting the report and balancesheet for the season 1936-37. The season was not as successful as that ol the previous year, owing to the fact that several of the older players either left the district or gave up the game. I regret to state that owing to insufficient senior players we were compelled to withdraw the senioi team, thus leaving us with a junior tqfim only. This team met their engagements with a good football spirit, and, being composed mostly of young players, were unfortunate in not securing many wins. The committee tender their congratulations to those palyers who gained representative honours —Campbell, Goodall, Bending, Carthy and A. Ellery. "We regret to find on perusal of the accounts that members’ subscriptions which are a very necessary item in the club's revenue, have bee:i sadly neglected this season.

“Annual Ball.--Thanks to an energetic committee, and a willing band of ladies under the supervision of Mrs H. Edwards, the annual ball was a success, financially and otherwise. “The balance-sheet shows a credit of £27 12s 4d, but a loss of £6 10s od on the year’s working. In conclusion I wish to thank the committee and officials for their valued assistance and co-operation during the year.” In moving the adoption of the report the chairman again referred to the neglect in payment of subscriptions. Mr W. Kearney suggested that a sub-committee might be more successful in collecting subscriptions. Mr R. C. S. McKenzie stated that in the coming season the Rugby Union would make it imperative that players must be financial before being entitled to the benefits of the insurance scheme. This would not penalise players, but would help clubs to collect their sunscriptions. He urged a "drive” for members, both playing and non-play-ing, the former paying 5s 6d (including 2s 6d for insurance), and nonplaying members a minimum of 3s. He added that in his opinion it only

required two or three gentlemen to canvass, and they would meet with few refusals. Furthermore, it would infuse more interest in the club. (Applause). Mr Kearney proposed that Messrs R. C. S. McKenzie and C. C. Price be appointed canvassers.—Carried, both gentlemen premising to do their best. Election of Officers. —The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr F. IJ. Watson (re-elected); president, Mr |J. Preston (re-elected); vice-presf--1 dents, Messrs W. Kearney, C. C. Price, JK. W. Dalrymple, C. V. Green, W. i Dean, E. A. Caldow and J. Dwyer; ! secretary and treasurer, Mr Ray El--1 lery; club captain, F. Cutts, junr.; 1 hon. auditor. Mr G. H. Archer (rej elected); selection committee, the 1 club and field captains, and the fol- | lowing "coaches”; senior, Mr J. Preston; junior, Mr L. F. Homes; delegate 1o the Rangitikei Rugby SunUnion, Mr J. Preston. Mr C. C. Price was nominated for vice-president of the sub-union, with a seat on the management committee. Coaching.- Mr J. Carthy said that Mr G. Lockett, the well-known Wanganui representative player, offered to come out to Bulls during week-ends and give players advice on the game. (Applause). Mr R. C. S. McKenzie said that Mr Lockett’s fine offer was "a win” for the club. Mr Lockett had a wonderful knowledge of the finer points of the game. (Applause). The Secretaryship. -Mr F. Cutts, senr., in declining the position, said that he would be always willing to assist their appointee. Mr Preston expressed regret at Mr Cutts’ retirement, and moved that it be placed on record that his valuable services over some seven years be recognised by conferring on him the honour of lifemembership. (Applause).

Three teams wil he entered for the Rangitikei competitions—senior, junior anti third grad?. Practice games will be arranged, and players are asked 1o assemble for practice on the sports ground on Easter Monday. Subscriptions will be as last year, and also. The question of providing numbers for players was left to the committee. The chairman moved a hearty vote of thanks to the Domain Board for keeping the grounds in such excellent order during the season; to the hon. auditor; and to the ladies and the Press. The usual honorarium was voted to the secretary. In conclusion the chairman thanked al for attending. and wisned the club a successful season. Mr R. C. S. McKenzie, in moving the usual vote of thanks to the chair, said that although Mr Preston was probably the youngest president in the history of the club, he was "galloping we.'J,” and was the right man for the job.
