ACCIDENT IN GORGE
MEN FOUND INJURED UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCED PALMERSTON N„ March 8. Two young men from Foxton are in the Palmerston North Hospital in a serious condition as the result of a motor-cycle accident which happened at the Woodville end of the Manawalu Gorge yesterday afternoon. They were both found lying unconscious partly down a bank by passing • motorists while their machine was propped up against the wire roadside fence. The two men are Robert Morris, flax worker, and j>olphe Halidone. flax feeder. They had been to the Trades Union picnic at Ashhurs;. There was no indication of a collision, but both must have been lying for some time where they were found, as blood was drying on their faces. A doctor was summoned from Woodville and they were brought into the hospital by the Free Ambulance. The hospital authorities reported this morning that Morris is now conscious and his injuries consist of a lacerated face, cut knee, and a fractured right arm. Halidone has a fractured skull and face abrasions, and a lacerated knee. The condition of both victims was reported to be favourable in the circumstances.
