Exhibition of Dahlias. A display of dahlia blooms, to be held in the D.I.C. Lounge to-day and to-morrow r , should attract a large number of visitors. The exhibition of blooms, which is arranged by Frank Mason, dahlia specialist, of Feilding, will be on view from 10.30 a.m. Parties for Brides-to-be. Recently the Makirikiri members of the W.D.F.U. held a most enjoyable “handkerchief afternoon” at the residence of Mrs. J. Todd, Makirikiri, in honour of Miss Eileen Ford arrft Miss Pan Wylds, who are to be married shortly. Farewell Party. Mrs. J. A. Nicholls, Sedgebrook Street, was hostess last week at a pleasant party given in honour of Mrs. J. B. Baird, who will leave next month for England and Canada with her two small daughters. Many-hued hydrangeas were effectively used for decorating. Among the guests were Dr. Mollie Christie, Mesdames J. P. Wells, J. Clapham, Russell Scoular, E. Ziesler, J. Nixon, J. McGregor, G. Cooke, and Miss Clapham. S.P.C.A. The S.P.C.A. held its first committee meeting of this year on Monday in Duigan’s rooms, Ridgway Street. Mr. Strouts, the president, took the chair. The inspector reported for the past month that he had investigated two cases of cruelty to horses, two cases to cattle, three to dogs, and had to issue warnings where necessary. Also he had three cases of dogs being run over, one of which had to be destroyed. He visited the Freezing Works, saleyards and auction marts and warned people for carrying poultry in bags without ventilation. He also had observed that some lorries were carrying top-heavy loads of sheep, which swing too much turning corners. The next committee meeting is to be arranged.
