CORONATION -DATE
INDUSTRY RELIEVED Received Dec. 13, 6.8 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 13. The first reference to Elizabeth as "the Queen” was made in a court circular which announced: "Queen Mary subsequently visited the Queen at 145 Piccadilly.” The Sunday Graphic says the decision not to change the coronation date, reached after a long talk with Mr. Ramsay MacDonald, will bring relief to industry and millions of workers whose slogan now will be "full speed ahead.” There has been a significant change in the House of Lords, for the taking of thq oath of allegiance. The single throne has been replaced by two thrones, the Queen’s throne being slightly lower, but one seat on the dais not yet replaced is that on which the Prince of Wales formerly sat at the opening of Parliament. The time for Princess Elizabeth to take her place at functions as the heir presumptive has not yet come. EX-KING’S TITLE .. SPECULATION BEFORE . . ANNOUNCEMENT Received Dec. 13, 9.5 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 12. The description ot the ex-King in last night’s broadcast as "His Royal Highness, Prince Edward,” occasioned speculation as to whether he would so continue to be known. It was believed that the announcer’s use of the title was unauthorised. King George VI will confer a new title after the proclamation to-day. Some authorities hold that Edward, being born a prince, remains legally Prince Edward Windsor. The question arises whether his abdication entails the loss of orders and titles conferred on him after his accession to
the throne. Those who hold the vieui that he may assume one of the peerages he holds by virtue of his royal status, favour the Earl of Carrick, his Scottish title, not carrying a seat in the House of Lords. It is recalled that Mrs. Simpson was known while travelling earlier in the year as the Countess of Carrick.
