HEALTH CAMP

CARNIVAL NEARS ITS END “JOTLAND” AS FINALE The queen carnival campaign which has been in progress during the past few weeks with the laudable object of raising funds for the Wanganui Children’s Health Camp, is nearing its conclusion. The final count of votes take place at noon on Monday. At the moment the three competing candidates stand as follow: City' (Miss M. Spurdie) .. . 28,716 Sports (Miss J. Wilson) 27,600 Country (Mrs. A. H. McLean) 24,891 A sum of £l5OO is required by i ! • promoters of the Health Camp movement and it is hoped that supporters will rally to the cause during the last few days. That amount will permit the furnishing and equipment of the camp and installation of the necessarydrainage to permit the premises to be occupied straight away. It ’will also cover a year's maintenance. Establishment of such a camp in Wanganui will be most beneficial to the district, and will be appropriate in that the health camp movement in the Dominion was first launched under the jurisdiction of the Wanganui Education Board, with Dr. Elizabeth Gunn in charge. “Joyland” is to be promoted at the Drill Hall to-night and to-morrow night as a fitting finale to the scheme so far as the Sports Queen is concerned. Every effort is being made by the combined football clubs of I Wanganui to make this indeed a funcI tion well worthy of its name.
