HAWKE CUP MATCHES WANGANUI v. TARANAKI DATES NOT DEFINITELY FIXED 5 ( Wanganui’s first representative cricket match of the season will be against Taranaki in an elimination encounter for the Hawke Cup. Wanganui has suggested December 4,5, and 6 as suitable dates for the match, 1 which is to be played at Wanganui, but Taranaki has not approved. 4 At a meeting of the executive of the Taranaki Cricket Association on Tuesday night the matter was discussed. Players both in North and South Taranaki would find it inconvenient to remain at Wanganui over a week- v end, said Mr. J. D. Quirke. As far as the northern division was concerned the dates suggested were too early, as players in this section would have had r practically no practice on turf wickets. Delegates from both divisions agreed with these points and it. was decided to suggest to the Wanganui Association that the match should be played on December 10, 11, and 12. from Thursday to Saturday. The grouping will be:— Manawatu v. Southland. South Auckland v. North Auckland. Hawke’s a Bay v. Poverty Bay, Taranaki v. Wan- r ganui, Rangitikei v. Wairarapa, Nelson v. Marlborough. The group winners must be decided before December 15 and they will then have the right to challenge the holder of the cup, Manawatu. p It is probable that in view of Taranaki being the travelling side, Wanganui will fall in with the suggested dates December 10, 11, 12.
