NEW MODERATOR DESIGNATE JUBILEE FUND PROPOSED TPpr Pref’ Association] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 22. Rev. W. H. Howes was elected Moderator Designate of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church for the 1937 Assembly and the church year following. His present, charge is Otautau, Southland. It was decided to hold the next General Assembly at Auckland. The raising of a fund of approximately £250,000 to be used mainly In lightening the load of debt, on many Presbyterian Church districts was suggested to the General Assembly yesterday as a fitting celebration of the church centenary, which falls on the same date as the centenary of the Dominion. It was decided to refer the suggestion to the centenary committee to be constituted at Wellington. The proposal was made by Rev. H. B. Burnett as coming from the Auckland Presbytery. His proposal was that the fund should be used as an endowment, of which only the Interest would be available. MODERATOR CHOSEN. I Per Pre?s Association] CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 21. The Rev. W. 11. Howes, of Otautau, was chosen to-day as Moderator for the 1937 Presbyterian General Assembly. The only other nomination was that of the R*v. J. Lawson Robinson, Christchurch. Mr. Howes was born in Dunedin, educated at the Otago Boys’ High School and Otago University, and has been stationed a< Waihola, Milburn, Manaia, Rangiora, and Carterton.
