TRAWLER GIRL PAT

OLD BAILEY TRIAL THE ORSBORNES CHARGED LONDON, Oct. 19. i At the Girl Pat trial at the Old I Bailey the Orsborne brothers pleaded not guilty to stealing the Girl Pat. The prosecution alleged that Orsborne in March was on Gypsy Love, on which his brother George stowed away. The engines broke down and the vessel was forced to return. Orsborne was then given command of the Girl Pat, on which his brother was smuggled. Near Dover Orsborne informed his companions that they would have to get rid of the engineer, Jefferson, as he was not “in the know.” They plied him with drink at Dover and left him ashore. John Moore, managing director of the Marstrand Fishing Company, denied that the company's fleet was doing badly, though all the vessels were mortgaged. He denied that he showed Orsborne a bundle of policies, saying, “We are well insured.” Moore denied that he asked Orsborne to take one of the company's ships and make the biggest trip she could make, promising him 15 per cent and definitely suggested that the ship should be go» rid of. Counsel suggested that Moore, as representative of the owners, had schemed for Orsborne to get first the Gypsy Love and then the Girl Pat thrown away. Moore replied that he understood the suggestion and deniea that he had ever discussed such action with his co-directors or the shareholders. Harry Stone, mate, said that Orsboren mentioned the suggestion that the ship should be got rid of. He added that Orsborne told him that he was going to sell the ship and divide the proceeds with the crew and owners and get the insurance. The case was adjourned.
