MARRED BY TRAGEDY
EGYPTIAN PREMIER’S WELCOME REJOICINGS OVER TREATY Received Oct. 18, 6.10 p.m. CAIRO, Oct. 17. Disaster attended the Egyptian rejoicings over the Anglo-Egyptian treaty culminating in the triumphal welcome to Nahas Pasha. En route to Cairo from Alexandria, the Premier's decorated train stopped at Toukh. 30 miles north of Cairo, and was immediately surrounded by enthusiastically cheering throngs, into which the express from Cairo ploughed at full speed before the driver was able to apply the brakes. Thirteen persons were killed and five iniured. Many of the crowd attempted to" lynch the driver, whom the police protected. The tragedy did not affect the Premier's reception at Cairo, where there was unprecedented enthusiasm.
