HIGH STAR SURPRISES DARGAVILLE CUP DAY MAZIR AND STAR ARTIST I [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, Oct. 17. The Dargaville Racing Club’s annual meeting was opened at Avondale to-day in fine weather. The track was in good order. There was a largeattendance and the totalisator handled £27,362, aaginst £17,119 10s on the first day last year, an increase of £10,242 10s. High Star came home first in the Maiden to pay over a century and three-quarters for a win and a quarter of a century for a place. Results:— NURSERY HANDICAP. King Tut took the lead early from Silver Brier, Horowhenua, Knight of Australia, Gay Talkie, Mazir and Master Brieriy. King Tut held the lead into the straight, with Knight of Australia and Horowhenua close up. but Mazir went through quickly from fifth position to win by one and a-half lengths from Silver Brier, who was fourth into the straight. Knight of Australia was a length back, third, and Gay Talkie was fourth. Time 2.7 1-5. TOKO TOKO HACK HANDICAP. Star Artist jumped to the front along the top, leading into the straight from Sebrof, Gay Defence, Triune, Solaria and Tin Lap. Star Artist held on well to win by three-quarters of a length from Triune, with Mangukaha a length back, third. Tray Bit was fourth. Time 1.12. HOBSON HANDICAP. (Of £130; one mile). VI—CROONING, 8.6.
