SANDON
TENNIS CLUB EXECUTIV E The president, Mr A. Sanson, presided at a meeting of the executive of the Sandon Tennis Club held on Tuesday evening. The following members were also present: Misses G. Sanson and G. Adams. Messrs Keith Lumsden. E. J. Bowater, R. Meyer, D. Hammond, and the secretary (Miss L. Gedye). t , Mr Alfred Anderson, patron of the club, wrote extending the club his best wishes for a successful season. A similar letter was also received from Mr W. Aiken, last year’s club captain. The Rongotea Tennis Club wrote asking the club to arrange for two delegates to attend a meeting which is to be held in Rongutea at an early date with a view to forming an association of all the country clubs in the surrounding district. The matter was discussed at some length, the view being held that the scheme was quite a good one, but the executive thought that difficulties might arise regarding transport facilities if the club were tied down to a definite set of fixtures. It was finally decided that the president, Mr A. Sanson and the secretary. Miss L. Gedye, be appointed delegates to attend the meeting at Rongotea, with a recommendation that a committee be formed to arrange friendly matches. Following a discussion regarding the form of the opening day, it was decided to adopt the same form as last year, invitations being extended to the clubs who had played matches with Sandon during last season. The official opening day was fixed for October 26, Labour Day. Miss G. Adams suggested that plots for flowers be dug and stated that the lady members of the club were willing to plant flowers providing her request was agreed to. The committee agreed to the suggestion and a working bee is to be arranged at an early date. The captain and secretary were requested to draw up fixtures for ladder matches. The question of erecting a volley board was discussed but the matter was left in abeyance in the meantime. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs D. C. Sanson for the use of their room. PERSONAL At the quarterly meeting of the Sanson-Rongotea Methodist Church officials held at Rongotea last evening. a unanimous invitation was extended to the Rev. R. E. Fordyce to remain in the circuit for the fourth year. Congratulations of the residents of the district are extended to Mr Roy Weston (recently of the post office staff), who was married in Palmerston North on Wednesday evenins.
