federated club a SUCCESSFUL YEAR ANNUAL MEETING HELD As far as flying is concerned our record for the year compares more than favourably with other clubs in the Dominion,” said the president (Mr. A. S. Burgess), at the annual J’nT.'V- the Weslern Federated (N. 1. J lying Club at Hawera yesterday. Those present were Messrs. J. R. Franklin, J. Strachan, H. B. Lightband, G. Hannan, R. Syme, W. A. Spragg, J. W. Hislop, S. E.' Nielsen (secretary), A. Salter (ground engineer L and Flight-Lieutenant lan Keith (pilot-instructor). Mr. Burgess said that crashes had again caused a considerable amount of expenditure during the year. If the club could be free from them for a year it would be in a good financial position. Mr. R. Syme said that a feature of the year was the increased number of trainees handled by the federation It was pointed out that one of the crashes had occurred during the previous year and that the work had been done during the last financial year. Consequently the amount of expenditure on the reparation of damage by crashes was not so high. Mr. A. S. Burgess was re-elected, ar the Federation’s representative on the New Zealand Aero Club. Council Meeting. Prior to the annual meeting, the ordinary meeting of the council was held. An invitation was received from the Te Kuiti Aero Club for club pilots to attend the official opening of the new aerodrome at Te Kuiti on Labour Day. The questions of machines attending the function was left to tiie individual clubs to arrange. The secretary reported that advice had been received from Defence Headquarters that seven federationtrained pilots had just been awarded A licences. Advice had also been received that 64 licences had been renewed. A letter was received from the Middle Districts Aero Club, suggesting that the Turakina River should be the boundary between the club and the Wanganui Aero Club, instead of the Rangitikei River as proposed by the federation. Mr. J. R. Franklin pointed out that a number of members of the Wanganui Aero Club resided in Marton and the club did not wish to have to cut them out. Mr. Burgess said that a member of the executive of the Wanganui Club lived just over the Turakina River, which was only. 13 miles distant from Wanganui. Several years ago Marton had expressed a desire to be associated with the Wanganui Club. It was decided to point out to the Middle Districts Aero Club that the federation was opposed to the Turakina River being the boundary. A recommendation from the New Zealand Aero Club that a reciprocal scheme for membership should be entered into between the aero clubs c-f the Dominion with a nominal fee of 5s was endorsed. The president stated that the suggestion was a reasonable one. The president said that the recent congress of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire had unanimously decided that the time had arrived when insurance companies should fix a reasonable rate for the insurance of professional and amateur pilots. The Associated Chambers of Commerce were taking the matter up and some good might come of it.
